Avedøreværket – DONG Energy

The Avedøreværket CHP plant is one of the world’s most efficient CHP plants. It is one of DONG Energy’s ten central power plants and is situated on Avedøre Holme south of Copenhagen. The Plant consists of two units: the coal-fired and oil-fired Avedøre 1 from 1990 and the multi-fuel-fired Avedøre 2 from 2001.

Avedøreværket produces power to the Nordic power grid and district heat to the Greater Copenhagen area.

In the autumn 2009 three new wind turbines of the MW class will be erected. The turbines will act as a display window for wind turbine technology. The two first wind turbines of 3.6 MW will have a hub height of 90 metres and rotor diameter of 107 metres.

Avedøre Wastewater Plant

Avedøre Wastewater Services treats the wastewater from 345.000 person-equivalents and receives and treats roughly 25 million m³ of wastewater annually.

ASW is a very good example of achieving great success by linking research and development activities into a very practically-oriented organization. One example is the project “Opdrift” which resulted in great energy savings of 750 MWh/year and the improvements were achieved only by better process control. AWS is currently involved in many research and development projects such as effect of climate changes and demonstration of use of lifecycle assessment. AWS collaborates with Copenhagen Energy and Lynettefællesskabet (the largest wastewater service in Denmark) in “Copenhagen R & D”.
